Spruce Grove Councillor Erin Stevenson is proud to launch her campaign for a third term under the banner “I ❤️ SG”—a positive, community-focused message reflecting her deep commitment to the people, places, and possibilities that make Spruce Grove special.
Celebrating Community: Spruce Grove’s Vibrant Events Scene
Spruce Grove is a city that knows how to come together andsupport the community’s growing calendar of festivals, markets, and gatherings. As part of her “I 💙 SG” campaign, Stevenson is highlighting the ways events bring people together, boost local pride, and create lasting memories.

LOVE: A City Alive with Activity
One of the most visible successes in recent years has been the revitalization of Columbus Park in the heart of the city centre. The redesigned space is now a usable space for both City-led and community-led events. It’s already hosted everything from City Centre Business Association (CCBA) markets to the popular Grove Gatherings, adding new energy to Spruce Grove’s core.
“The redevelopment of Columbus Park gave us a beautiful, flexible space for events,” says Stevenson. “It’s quickly become part of the rotation for everything from concerts to artisan markets.”
The city has also expanded recreational programming, with initiatives like pop-up playgrounds, bringing fun directly to neighbourhoods, and Grove Gatherings providing live music and entertainment, and family activities in a relaxed, outdoor setting. Seasonal celebrations such as Alberta Day have given residents even more opportunities to connect with their city and each other. “These events are more than just entertainment—they build community connections and make our city feel alive,” Stevenson says.

IMPROVE: Reaching and Engaging All Age Groups
While Spruce Grove’s events calendar is robust, Stevenson believes there’s an opportunity to better connect with young residents—particularly high school and junior high students.
“We have so many events that are for all age groups, but sometimes younger residents don’t know about them, or they don’t see how they can get involved,” she explains.
Her goal is to partner with schools to promote upcoming events and in turn promote their events, while also encouraging students to volunteer and gain experience in community building. “Volunteering at events can be a great way for youth to meet people, develop skills, and feel a sense of belonging.”

NEXT: Recognizing Our Community’s Champions
Stevenson also wants to see a bigger spotlight on the people who make Spruce Grove a better place—long-term volunteers, service organizations, and everyday residents who go above and beyond. “Mayor Acker has said we need to elevate the people in our community, and I couldn’t agree more,” Stevenson says. “A larger awards ceremony or celebration could be a wonderful way to recognize the doers, the helpers, and the heroes.”
And for those who like their community events with a bit of adventure? Stevenson is still working on making her “weekend tenting in Jubilee Park” idea a reality. “It’s a fun, unique way for families to experience one of our city’s most beloved parks overnight,” she says with a smile.
